Building a Landmark Public Cultural Project with Integrated Construction Capability

The Feidong Grand Theatre Project is located on the south side of Hemu Lake in the eastern new district of Feidong, Anhui Province. It is a large-scale public cultural building that integrates the functions of a grand theatre and a cultural center.

The project is bordered by Cuodong Road to the east, Shenxiu Road to the west, Dujiang Road to the south and Yaogang Road to the north. With a total building area of approximately 47,543.35 m², a total investment of approximately RMB 542.47 million and a planned construction period of 1,440 days, the project placed high requirements on construction organization, structural safety, spatial quality and functional performance.

Two Cultural Functions in One Integrated Landmark

Feidong Grand Theatre is not a single-purpose performance venue. It combines a grand theatre and a cultural center into one integrated public cultural complex.

After completion, the project is designed to meet the needs of high-level and large-scale performances, while also remaining open to the public. It brings together professional performing arts and community cultural activities, creating a public space that serves different levels of cultural demand.

Public cultural buildings of this type usually feature large-span spaces, complex functional zones, strict audience circulation requirements and sophisticated building service systems. Theatre projects are especially complex because the stage, auditorium, backstage areas, equipment zones and underground spaces must work together as one complete system. This makes the project significantly more challenging than ordinary civil buildings.

Above-Ground and Underground Structures, Comprehensive Construction Management

The project includes both above-ground and underground building sections. The stage basement is partially three levels underground, while the overall building includes one underground level.

The combination of complex underground structures and large public spaces placed high demands on the general contractor’s construction organization, quality management and multi-discipline coordination capabilities.

Yaohai Steel Structure undertook the project as a construction general contractor. The company needed to coordinate structural construction, spatial organization, project progress, quality control and on-site management throughout the long construction period.
