Large-Scale Steel Structure Engineering for a Research and Office Park

 

The Shanghai Lingang Plot Project is located in Nanhui New Town, Pudong New Area, Shanghai. It is an important project supporting the development of research office space and industrial facilities in the Lingang area.

 

With the continued growth of industrial clusters, advanced manufacturing and high-end technology industries in the Shanghai Lingang Special Area, the demand for R&D office buildings, research facilities, industrial workshops and supporting infrastructure has continued to increase. The Shanghai Lingang Plot Project was developed against this background as a large-scale integrated park project.

 

According to the public planning announcement released by the Lingang Special Area authority, the project site is located east of Chunjing Road, west of Shuyi Road, south of Yintao Road and north of the green belt on the south side of Zhoude Road. The project has a total land area of approximately 29,824.7 m² and a total building area of approximately 133,076.47 m², including approximately 94,111.16 m² above ground and 38,965.31 m² underground.

 

The project includes two 11-storey R&D buildings, eight 5-storey research buildings, one 3-storey workshop, one KF station and a two-level underground garage. With a total construction period of approximately 696 calendar days and steel structure work of approximately 12,000 tons, the project placed high requirements on production organization, quality control, logistics coordination and long-cycle project delivery.

 

 

Multi-Building Park Development, Strong Supply Capability

 

The Shanghai Lingang Plot Project has typical characteristics of a research and office park: multiple building blocks, mixed building functions, a long construction period and complex construction organization. The project includes R&D office buildings, research buildings, an industrial workshop, a station facility and underground parking space. Different building types have different structural systems, component specifications, construction schedules and delivery milestones.

 

For this type of project, the key challenge is not simply completing one batch of steel components. Instead, the steel structure supplier must provide continuous and stable component supply and quality assurance throughout a relatively long project cycle.

 

Steel components need to be produced, transported and installed in batches according to the actual site progress. This places higher requirements on production scheduling, component numbering, logistics planning and on-site communication.

 

In this project, Yaohai Steel Structure undertook approximately 12,000 tons of steel structure-related work. Through factory-based manufacturing and project-based management, the company provided stable steel structure support for the construction of this multi-building research and office park.

 

 

Standardized Fabrication, Project-Based Management

As a main structural system or an important part of the building, steel structure must meet requirements for safety, stability, fabrication accuracy and site installation efficiency.

R&D buildings and research buildings require structural safety and efficient use of space, while the workshop and supporting station facility place more emphasis on functional adaptability and construction efficiency.

From material procurement, design coordination and component fabrication to welding, dimensional inspection and finished product delivery, the steel structure production process had to be closely aligned with the site construction plan.
